1. INTRODUCTION: French philosopher Descartes posited, " I think, therefore I am." The artistic creations of Michael Jackson may be described as " I create and perform, therefore I am." Presently students of philosophy such as Stanford University's Ken Taylor attempt to analyze the phenomena of simple dance steps and moves Michael Jackson derived from study of predecessor artists James Brown, Fred Astaire, Bojangles, Sammy Davis, Jr. and ballet dancer Rudolph Nyurev. Over time Jackson developed original innovative elegant dance moves still emulated by dancers from all cultures and of all ages worldwide constituting quite an astonishing achievement for an activity only part of an overall musical performance. Readers shall recall that musical performer Madonna studied dance while in college and explains that her performances are to be presented as musical theatre encompassing singing, alternate costume designs and, of course, significant focus on dance including employment of multiple dancers. Micahel Jackson's 'Thriller' video, directed and produced by filmmaker John Landis and Michael Jackson constitutes a classic work of film dance-music art, yet not equaled in two decades.

As a jazz musician, the author takes care, when performing compositions by others, to select compositions which contain emotionally stimulating melody with rhythmic patterns motivating listener to sympathetically move the body. Michael Jackson perservered from age 6 to age 50, creating by any measure a body of high quality work which shall remain unsurpassed in the modern era.
