This morning the Cyberspot Internet Sweepstakes cafe in Dunedin and several other towns in Florida were raided by the Sheriff's office and the FDLE. We had a chance to interview one of the patrons and several of the business owners. This was a cafe that offered sweepstakes play online in a retail outlet. Inside they had a nonprofit charity that was registered with the secretary of state of Florida as the beneficiary of the proceeds. From what we saw, the state or at least this county ( Pinellas) Thinks its gambling. Those that remember the "Largo Eight" a group of elderly guys playing penny ante poker were prosecuted back in the early 90's. So the question is... Is the Pinellas County Sheriff trying to protect the elderly from being swindled out of their Social security?? Or, is this another example of a "Blue Law" being enforced because the county isn't in on the take!!!

Cant believe they waited 5 months to act!

The elderly people that showed up wanting their money and the people that continued to play while the police were inside thinking they still were going to recieve their money was sad.

Whats Up??

So it s ok for the Hardrock casino to have gambling and pay NO!NO! taxes to the State of Florida! These internet cafes give people a place to go and spend time and socialize for a small amount of money out of pocket. Now remember, they never lose the calling time on there cards, never! If they put $100 on card and then spend time on the computers playing games for injoyment, and eating for free, when they walk out, they still have $100 in calling minutes on there cards.Go into a gaming establiment and lose your momey, you walk out with 00000,nothing!So tell me, whats wrong with this picture.Tallahasse, states this sweepstake cafes are leagal! They also give $$money to charity, does the Hardrock do this,NO!When a person buys a call card they pay tax.Did you here me they pay TAX!!You may come in to a cafe and pay nothing and still enter the sweepstake. One hand does not know what the other hand is doing in the State of Florida.

what about McDonalds and other that have sweepstakes.

this seems to be the same thing these chain fast food places are doing with their win a million dollars sweepstakes. I wonder what the real motive for shutting the operations down was?????????
